Growing with seeds

First, you have to prepare the soil mix:

1/3 coarse sand
1/3 loam
1/3 leaf mold

Other required equipment:

- Wide flowerpot
- Small but deep flowerpots
- Daylight / Full spectrum lamp 75 Watt
- A Tablespoon
- Water spray bottle
- Thermometer

The soil mix is placed in the wide flowerpot. Spread the seeds equally on it and cover the top of the soil with some sand. Place the flowerpot in lukewarm water, so that the earth can soak the water slowly and equally.

Spray the germination pot from time to time, it should never dry out. Place it under the daylight lamp, set the lamp to a height where it gives 26 °C on the top of the germination pot. The cacti require 16 hours light each day.

After 5-10 days, the first seeds will open. The seedlings can stay in their germination pot for up to 6 months. They only have to be moved if they are too close together.

Prepare the small and deep flowerpots with the same soil mixture. You can pick up the seedlings and the soil arround them with a tablespoon. Put them into holes in the soil and cover the top of the soil with some sand. Start watering the cacti after 3-4 days. Spray some water on the top every day, so that the soil is completely soaked after one week.
You can now fertilize your cacti every 2-3 months with cacti fertilizer. You should plant your cacti into new soil every 3-4 years, because the amount of salts in the soil increases as time goes by.

Growing with cuttings

You should take stronger and bigger cacti to get your cutting, because the root has to be strong enough to rebuild the button. The upper part is cut off just above the root, but be careful to not damage the root.

The pot with the root is placed in a shady area, where it shouldn't be watered for some time. After 1-2 weeks, the cut surface is covered by a skin, now you can continue to water it. The plant will replace the button completely within 1-2 years.

The upper part is placed in root growth hormone powder, now lay it aside for 24 hours. After that, wash away the powder from the button. Now the cactus will have developed a thin skin on the wound. This means you can start spraying them with water every day. After a few days, new roots will appear.

Prepare a small flowerpot with the soil mixture, place the cutting on it, about 5 mm deep. Spray the soil with water, but do not spray too much. It will take some time before the cutting continues to grow.
