Peyote cactus has been and it is still used in religious ceremonies. Rarely people take it for recreational use, mainly due to its scarce availability and long growing period. Its active principle is mescaline, and nowadays it is quite easy to find mescaline extracts and/or derivatives in almost every online smart shops.

But how should a person cut the peyote in order to eat it? How much should one take, and what kind of effect one should expect?

How to cut:

When your peyote is mature, and big enough (the cactus should be at least 5 years old or more) cut the cactus above the soil, and be sure to leave some areoles (the hairy parts of the peyote, thorns in other types of cactus). In this way, the cactus can give birth in time to new ones, even if you cut it. Cacti usually grow from the apical meristem, which is the central part. Therefore leave this part intact, unless you know what you are doing. It is suggested to cut small pieces of the peyote around this point when it is mature. In this way you will get your cactus to eat, and the plant will keep growing.

Dose:

200 to 400 mg of pure mescaline.
10 to 20 grams of dried peyote buttons.

It is quite difficult however to measure the dose of a dried cactus, since its potency varies considerably between samples. That is why most people prefer to first extract the mescaline. You can also directly chew the dried cactus, prepare a tea, or blend it as a puree.

Effects:

Duration: 5 to 8 hours.
Coming up: 30 to 50 minutes
Peak: 2 to 5 hours
Coming down: 1 to 2 hours

Positive Effects: Bright Colors, Closed and open eye visuals, mood lift, euphoria, increase in energy, happy dreamy feelings.

Peyote is known to trigger states of deep introspection, metaphysical or of a certain spiritual nature. Mostly accompanied by rich visuals and sound enhancement.

Negative Effects: Nausea and vomiting, shortness of breath, changes in body temperature, difficult to communicate, inhibition of sex drive.

As all psychedelics, it can gives very good visuals and amazing feelings, but sometimes and for someone, this might result to be overwhelming and unpleasant for others.

Although not so intense and complete as LSD, Peyote still is an amazing cactus, and mescaline an amazing drug, very visual, with pastel-colors, softer patterns, more 'natural' kinds of hallucinations, deep and profound thoughts but not quite uncontrollable.
