Psilocybe Tampanensis

Psilocybe Tampanensis is one of two species of mushrooms that are known as Philosophers’ Stones (the other one being Psilocybe Mexicana A).

Philosophers’ stones or “truffles” do not look like other well known magic mushrooms such as the Mexican or Hawaiian mushrooms because they do not come from the same part of the mushroom. Truffles are not the "fruit" of a mushroom (the stem and the cap). They are an underground part of the mushroom, a small hardened mass connected to the stem.

The truffle is the part of the mushroom where the mycelium (=the food reserves of the mushroom) is stored. Apart from mycelium, it also stores the active substances psilocibyin and psilocyn. Truffles can grow and survive for a long time. Usually, they have a brownish color and look like rocks or mud.

Not only does the psilocybe tampanensis look different than other magic mushrooms, it also tastes different. Some say they have a kind of nutty flavor. There are several ways you could eat them. You could simply eat them raw or make some Truffle Tea.

Eating raw truffles

Because Pcilocybe Tampanensis don’t taste as bas as other magic mushrooms, the most easy and effective way to consume them is by eating them raw. Wash it and put in your mouth. Chew well. If you prefer this method, it is best to eat them on an empty stomach. So do not eat 6 hours before consuming them.

Truffle tea

1. Cut the truffles in lille slices
2. Put the slices in 5dl of boiling water and let them boil softly for a half hour.
3. Afterwards, filter out the pieces of truffle and keep the tea
4. To improve the taste of the tea, you could sweeten it with some sugar or honey or add some other tea.

Fresh or dried mushrooms

Truffles can be purchased fresh or dried. Fresh musrooms should be kept in the fridge and consumed within 3 weeks. Dried mushrooms can be conserved for about 6 months. After that, their strength will decrease.

Drying mushrooms

Drying truffles is quite simple. Just put them on some newspapers in a warm room. You could use a fan to speed up the process. After drying, put the mushrooms in a cool and dark place in an airtight box or bag.
